How drum brakes work:
Drum brakes mainly consist of brake base plates, brake drums, brake shoes, return springs, compression wheels and other components.
When braking, by stepping on the pedal and using the lever principle, the force of the push rod acts on the brake master cylinder. After the pressure of the brake fluid is amplified and pushes the brake cylinder, the pistons at both ends of the brake cylinder will move at the same time. The thrust with equal force is directed to the shoe ends of the left and right brake shoes. The other ends of the two brake shoes are supported by the support rod. At this time, the two brake shoes expand outward and fit with the inner surface of the brake drum to form a friction to achieve braking purposes. Since the wheel is a rotating brake drum, the pressure acting on the brake shoes is asymmetrical, causing self-increasing and self-reducing force effects. The friction torque of the force-increasing brake shoe is 2 to 2.5 times that of the force-reducing brake shoe, which causes the wear degree of the two brake shoes to be different.
The function of the brake adjustment arm:
When the truck is driving, frequent braking will cause the brake shoes and brake drums to wear continuously, causing the gap between them to gradually increase; eventually, the push rod stroke of the brake chamber will become longer and the thrust force will decrease. Causes braking lag and reduced braking force. In order to ensure driving safety, it is necessary to ensure that there is an appropriate matching gap between the brake shoe and the brake drum. The adjusting arm is a device used to adjust and control the gap between the two.
How the brake adjustment arm works:
When designing the automatic adjustment arm, different brake clearance values will be preset according to different axle models. If the gap exceeds the limit during normal use, the brake adjustment arm will drive the internal one-way clutch mechanism to reduce the gap value by one gear when returning to the position after completing the braking action, so that the braking gap can be maintained at a level within the correct range.
